ShortlyAI Review: Write an Article You Can Be Proud Of (2025)

ShortlyAI Review

Content is king in this fast-paced world of search engines and social media. In fact, 82% of marketers actively invest in content marketing as one of their top digital marketing strategies. However, for content to be successful, it must be written well.

If not, your content won’t rank, and it will be challenging to achieve your business goals.

However only some marketers are actually good at writing, and many small businesses may need an additional budget to hire a writer. So, how can you produce good content without breaking the bank?

Enter Shortly AI. This AI writing tool can help you write different types of content like blogs, social media posts, product descriptions, video scripts, stories, and more. But is it the AI writing partner you need?

In this Shortly AI review, I’ll discuss what this tool is, how it works, its features, drawbacks, and other things that will help you decide if it’s the right tool for you.

Ready? Let’s go!

What is ShortlyAI?

Introduced in August 2020, this AI writing tool was created by Qaim Munyi. It was designed to help businesses and copywriters struggling to write content and other marketing materials.

ShortlyAI makes content writing easy by allowing users to set up parameters for what they need and letting the writing assistant do most of the job.

This means that anyone, even those without prior writing experience, can generate content such as articles and blogs by simply providing a couple of commands.

Compared to other writing tools, ShortlyAI has no word restrictions, allowing you to generate as much content as you can.

But how does this software work?

This AI writing assistant is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-3-based artificial intelligence program, which is a language moded that uses deep and machine learning to produce natural-sounding and human-like text.

Most AIs use GPT-3 (Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3) technology, which has been trained on almost half a trillion words to “learn” to write.

However, this is also the only AI that has passed the Turing test, which is a test to examine a machine or software’s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to a human.

While most AI writing assistants are created to allow users to write quality content quickly to focus on more critical parts of their business, ShortlyAI can do more than that.

It can also be used as a word processor with apps like Microsoft Word or Google Docs. This tool also ensures that all its outputs are original and entirely plagiarism-free.

ShortlyAI is now owned by the Conversion.ai team, which is now called JasperAI.

Key Features of ShortlyAI

So what can you expect from this AI writing assistant? I’ve listed them down below:

User-Friendly Interface.

If you’re a techie, using ShortlyAI will actually be quite easy. The interface is intuitive, so there’s no learning curve. Once you’ve logged in to your account, you can easily navigate and master the tool.

But what if you’re not used to tools like this? Is it also easy to use?

Well, good news. Even if you’re unfamiliar with writing tools like ShortlyAI, you can quickly learn how to navigate this one.

The instructions are well presented and even show tips to create content immediately.

Everything is pretty straightforward, I’ve tried many AI writing assistants before, and ShortlyAI is one of the tools I got used to quickly.

It’s also not overwhelming, as the interface is designed without too much noise or distraction.

Ability to Customize Content.

ShortlyAI allows you to create different lengths of content–whether you need to rewrite a sentence or paragraph or even generate short and long-form content. You just need to instruct and tell Shortly what you want to do, and it will write the content for you.

You can even change how much the AI should write at a time.

For example, if you have writer’s block and need a little push, you can ask the AI to complete your sentences. It will generate around 2 to 3 sentences and can finish hanging thoughts.

If you don’t know what to write, you can give instructions to Shortly and set your output to the maximum option (a lot), and the AI will generate content for you.

I think that this feature is handy for all kinds of writers, even seasoned ones.

Let’s be honest for a second. Writing can be tedious, and often, it can be challenging to develop new ideas. If you need a little push, without needing someone to write the whole thing for you, you can ask for some help from Shortly, and you’ll get the support you need.

Commands Instead of Menus.

This is probably my favorite feature of all. One thing I don’t enjoy with other AI writing assistants is that it contains many unnecessary functions.

This makes new users need clarification about what to press to create unique content. With Shortly, you’re given various slash commands that you can use to instruct the AI what to do with the click of a button.

Slash commands allow you to work with ShortlyAI efficiently. All you have to do is type the command, along with your text or instructions, in square brackets and click the Write for Me button.

Alternatively, you can highlight your text or instructions and use the relevant keyboard shortcut to let the AI do its magic.

Here are the basic slash commands:

  • Instruct (/instruct[instructions]) – This is the most powerful command, which allows you to tell the AI what to write or do something specific. This can range from asking the AI to write topics about a subject or generate a website copy for you.
Keyboard shortcut + Enter for Mac and Control Enter for Windows.
  • Rewrite (/rewrite [text]) – This allows you to rewrite selected text differently, up to 160 characters.
Keyboard shortcut + P for Mac and Control for Windows.
  • Shorten (/shorten [text]) – This command lets you trim selected text to make it more concise, a maximum of 200 characters.
Keyboard shortcut + [ for Mac and Control for Windows.
  • Expand (/expand[text]) – This extends the selected text to a maximum of 120 characters.
Keyboard shortcut + ] for Mac and Control for Windows.

When using these commands (except for the instruct command), the AI does not look at anything in the document except for what you have written in the command brackets. Only the instruct command can see and use the surrounding context.

Free Trial!

ShortlyAI comes with a free trial that allows you to access all of its features for up to four daily uses. However, you can only write 300 words using the free trial.

If you want unlimited word credits, you should go for the premium plan, which is competitive, given that it doesn’t limit your word count.

Thanks to this free trial, you can check if this app is perfect for your needs. I suggest using the free account before committing to a monthly plan. Since it comes with all the paid plan features, it gives you a rough idea of whether this software is for you.

Unlimited Words.

Most AI writing tools can only generate a certain amount of words per month. This can be frustrating, especially if you need to pump out a lot of blog posts, as you may need to purchase extra words to meet your demand.

At the same time, not all generated content captures your brief or the voice you’re looking for, so some words are useless.

With ShortlyAI, you don’t have to worry about wasting a lot of words since it offers unlimited word usage.

It also doesn’t have a credit system, so you can develop as many stories and content as you like without extra cost.

The only word limit you have to worry about is the daily limit, which is still a lot and shouldn’t be reached under everyday use, so you can continue writing.

What Can You Do with ShortlyAI?

As mentioned, ShortlyAI can write anything you need. This includes the writing of an entire blog post for your website! Of course, the tool is far from perfect, but it can produce awesome content that could still help you with your business needs.

At the same time, it also allows you to create creative content, so students and aspiring writers can also take advantage of this tool.

Below are some of the things that you can do with ShortlyAI. Note that you can do many other things with this tool; I’m just giving you some ideas. Your imagination is the limit!

Create a Story.

If you have a story idea in mind but can’t seem to get past a blank page, using ShortlyAI can give you the boost you need. When you start a new document, Shortly will ask you what content you want to write.

For stories and other creative pieces, choose the I’m writing a story option when you first create a document, and you’re all set.

Blog Posts and Articles.

With content marketing, blog posts and articles are gems. These types of content can help you rank and get more search visibility. If you need help writing a blog post, ShorltyAI can help you get the content you need.

One thing I like the most when using this tool for blog writing is I don’t have to worry about plagiarism.

Social Media Captions.

If writing captions isn’t your strongest suit, don’t stress. ShortlyAI is the best assistant you can get.

All you have to do is instruct the AI to write a caption about a specific topic, and you’re good to go.

Blog Outline.

This is the best thing the Shortly can do, in my opinion. It’s extremely useful, especially for writers who need help to start their assignments.

I’ve tried it with the topic “keto diet,” and the result is impressive.

To improve the result even better, you need to be quite detailed with what you are after, and you will need to proofread some of it.

But look at the outline it produced. It even provided a brief outline description, so you know what else to add to finish your blog post.

YouTube Scripts.

Shortly can also help in writing YouTube scripts. If you already have an outline and an idea of what the script would look like, just instruct the AI, and you can have your script ready in a few minutes.

Consider dividing this task per section to ensure the flow is natural. In some cases, Shortly tends to jump from one topic to another without making a smooth transition. But this is normal with AI writing tools.

Pricing

ShortlyAI comes into different prices:

  • Monthly plan: This plan costs $79 per month, which includes all access to ShortlyAI slash commands and other features. All future updates are also included.
  • Annual plan: If you think that Shortly is the perfect writing tool, getting the yearly plan will save you more money, as it will only cost $65 per month. And you get two months free!
However, this plan is billed annually, so be ready to shed some cash when you sign up for this plan.

Pros and Cons

Below I break down the pros and cons of ShortlyAI.

What I Like the Most

  • Great user interface. The design isn’t distracting, unlike similar applications. This lets you focus on your task instead of toying around with the software.
  • Slash commands. These commands make it easy to navigate the app. It’s easy to memorize, too, since it only has four basic commands.
  • Variety of content. Even though it doesn’t have the option to create different types of content, you can instruct the app to do the content you need.
  • Fast customer support. My questions were addressed quickly via email.
  • No word credit. You don’t have to worry about exceeding your monthly limit if you need to create a lot of content. (One of my favorites).
  • Free trial. With many AI writing tools, you can only access its full features if you subscribe to a plan. ShortlyAI gives you a free account that doesn’t expire, although you only get to use it up to 4 times daily.

What Could Be Better

  • Can only understand English. There are other AI writing tools that are multilingual.
  • Pricing is only affordable for some writers and small businesses. $75 per month is a bit expensive compared to other tools.
  • No writing tone option. There’s no way for you to optimize the tone of the content.
  • No built-in grammar checker. Some of the outputs have grammar errors. This means you need to do some editing and proofreading.

Bottom Line

ShortlyAI is an excellent tool for anyone whose job or business requires creating compelling content and marketing materials quickly. I think that this is a superb writing assistant, especially if you can’t get past the dreaded blinking cursor.

However, you need to have some sort of writing background to get the most out of it.

Just remember that an artificial intelligence writing assistant like ShortlyAI isn’t a writer; you are. It can only provide some new ideas, but you still need to put in some effort to have a high-quality output.

But it is still worth the investment, especially if you need quality content quickly.

Maybe we can expect apps like this to completely write content for us in the future. But for now, it’s a team effort between you and the AI.
